The Directors

Andrew McKenzie graduated from the Institute of Sound and Vibration Research, University of Southampton in 1981 with a degree in Engineering Acoustics and Vibration. After 9 months in Sydney Australia with Wilkinson Murray Consulting and Eden Dynamics, he returned to the UK to take up a post as a research assistant at the ISVR. His research included ways to optimise hearing aid design for people with noise-induced hearing loss, leading to a PhD awarded in 1988. After 12 months as a freelance consultant, he returned to the Institute and spent two years as a research fellow, specialising in subjective evaluation of audio and acoustics, before forming Hayes McKenzie with Malcolm Hayes in 1991.

Malcolm Hayes graduated from the Polythechnic of North London in 1982 with a B.Sc. in Electronic and Communication Engineering. He spent 7 years at Hann Tucker Associates of Woking, managing the acoustic design elements of projects including hotel and office developments, film and recording studios, the Jubilee Line Extension and the London Crossrail Link. He reached the position of Associate in 1990 before forming Hayes McKenzie with Andrew McKenzie in 1991.

The Team

In addition to the two directors, we currently have 6 further full-time consultants. Following an initial vacation job whilst at the Institute of Sound and Vibration Research at Southampton University, Rob Shepherd has been with us full-time at the Salisbury Office since Summer 2005. Sylvia Broneske joined us in July 2007 from the noise department of wind turbine manufacturer Enercon in Germany followed by Joel Braham, also from the Institute of Sound and Vibration Research at Southampton University who joined us in September 2008. Our latest recruit at the Salisbury Office is Seth Roberts who joined us from acoustic consultants the English Cogger Partnership in Winchester. Tom Levet joined the Machynlleth Office in 2007 from the University of Salford where he obtained his (first class!) degree followed by two years research in conjunction with wind turbine manufacturer GE Wind Energy. The latest recruit at the Machynlleth Office is Tom Sedgman who joined us from the Building Design Partnership.
