Senior Consultant
Sylvia Broneske is a senior consultant at the Salisbury office with responsibility for liaison with manufacturers on source sound power level data. She graduated from the University of Applied Sciences, Hamburg, Germany with a degree in Environmental Engineering, during which time she worked part-time at Windtest Kaiser-Wilhelm-Koog GmbH (now GL Garrad Hassan Deutschland GmbH) with the acoustic measurement team. After graduation, she worked as an engineer and consultant in the Site Assessment Department of the wind turbine manufacturer Enercon GmbH in Germany. Her scope of duties included all aspects of wind turbine noise related issues and shadow impact assessment for wind farm developments, including programming the ENERCON shadow shutdown system to prevent shadow flicker at surrounding properties. In 2007 she joined Hayes McKenzie in Salisbury and is now a senior acoustic consultant, responsible for the preparation of Environmental Impact Assessments for wind farm developments; other noise assessment work for planning purposes; planning condition compliance tests, supporting the principal consultants at Public Inquiries and source noise measurements of wind turbines. She has given lectures on noise from wind turbines on several occasions at national and international meetings in the UK, Denmark and Germany. She is currently undertaking an MSc course in Sound and Vibration at the Institute of Sound and Vibration Research (ISVR) at the University of Southampton, whilst continuing to work at Hayes McKenzie. She is a member of the Institute of Acoustics and of the Verein Deutscher Ingenieure, the German equivalent of the Institute of Mechanical Engineers.
Seth Roberts BEng, AMIOA
Consultant
Seth Roberts is a consultant at the Salisbury office with responsibility for measurement equipment and other instrumentation. He has a BEng (Hons) degree in Acoustical Engineering from the Institute of Sound and Vibration Research at the University of Southampton and is also an associate member of the Institute of Acoustics. He joined Hayes McKenzie in 2009, having previously worked for The English Cogger Partnership in Winchester where he gained experience in environmental noise assessment for the support of planning applications; pre-completion testing and design-stage building acoustics based projects. Seth also worked at BAE underwater systems on the Talisman unmanned underwater vehicle project. The work consisted of a supervised, underwater acoustics research project that contributed directly to the design of the vehicle. Seth's research project in the final year of his degree used a pioneering technique for measuring the acoustic intensity of an ultrasonic transducer (underwater) that had not been used in any previous studies. Seth is registered with the Association of Noise Consultants for sound insulation testing under the requirements of the Building Regulations and is responsible for preparation of Environmental Impact Assessments for wind farm developments and other noise assessment work for planning purposes, including PPG24 and BS4142 noise assessments. Seth is also responsible for undertaking pre-completion sound insulation tests and preparing reports for remedial or design-stage building acoustics projects.
Mike Craven BSc, MIOA
Consultant
Mike Craven is a consultant at the Salisbury office with responsibility for undertaking Environmental Impact Assessments, investigating complaints and undertaking compliance measurements. He originally joined Hayes McKenzie in 2004, after completing a degree in Audio Technology at Salford University, where he worked in the Machynlleth office for three years, gaining experience in all aspects of wind turbine noise, including measurement, assessment and preparation of evidence for wind farm projects within the U.K and internationally. In 2008 he joined URS, based in Wimbledon, where he provided support to the Environmental Impact Assessment team on noise and vibration issues for a diverse range of projects, including large residential, commercial and industrial developments, oil and gas infrastructure and construction. The role also included advancing the company objective of expanding EIA related services both in the UK and internationally, in particular for wind farm developments, and providing advice on wind turbine noise as part of the trial Renewable Energy and Planning Expert Support Network (as invited by the Centre for Sustainable Energy). He re-joined Hayes McKenzie in October 2011.
